The Story

Fervor is the continuation of Michael Garland’s 25+ years in Great Southern cool climate winemaking, a journey defined by consistency and regional understanding at respected wineries like Plantagenet and Castelli Estate.

This project marks a personal shift—from building others' brands to creating an authentic expression rooted in connection: to place, people, and family.

Fervor is a father-and-son collaboration. Callum Garland grew up immersed in the industry, later refining his craft globally before returning home. In 2021, Mike and Callum began Fervor, turning a way to stay connected into a shared expression of their values and experience.

Today, two generations are united by one philosophy: to craft honest, authentic wines that reflect their place and celebrate people.

No ego. No pretence. Just honest wine.

The People

Fervor is built on relationships.

Decades spent in the Great Southern have allowed Mike to work closely with some of the region’s finest small vineyards…sites that consistently deliver fruit of clarity, structure, and character. These are not just vineyards; they are partnerships, built on trust and shared intent.

Fruit is sourced from exceptional cool-climate sites across the region, with a strong focus on sustainability, site expression, and minimal intervention where possible.

The approach is simple: Let the vineyard speak, guide it gently, and never overwork what nature has already done well.

This is viticulture with respect—and winemaking with restraint.

The Terroir

Fervor Wines draws from a carefully selected network of vineyards across Mount Barker, Denmark, Albany and neighbouring Pemberton, with each site chosen for its ability to express the distinct character of southern Western Australia.

In Mount Barker, gravelly loam soils, cool nights and long ripening seasons bring structure, purity and natural acidity to the wines.

Denmark’s maritime climate and granite-based soils contribute perfume, texture and elegance, while the Albany region offers freshness, fine tannin and vibrant aromatic detail shaped by the Southern Ocean.

Fruit sourced from Pemberton adds another layer to the story, bringing depth, vibrancy and cool-climate generosity from one of Western Australia’s most naturally pristine wine regions.

Rather than pursuing a single house style, Mike and Callum Garland focus on preserving the individuality of each vineyard and season, producing wines that speak honestly of place, balance and the remarkable diversity of the Great Southern and its surrounding regions.

Why I choose Fervor Wines

What draws me to Fervor isn’t just the quality of the wines ….. it’s the people behind them and the authenticity of their story. I’ve known Mike Garland for close to 20 years. Long before Fervor, he was my soccer coach, and over the years I’ve watched his unwavering commitment to quality, community and the Great Southern continue to shine through everything he does. Now, seeing that journey evolve alongside his son Callum makes it even more exciting.

Callum grew up alongside my sons, and today brings a new generation of energy and passion to the business. Together, Mike and Callum represent something incredibly special for the Great Southern …. a combination of experience, loyalty to the region, trusted vineyard relationships and a genuine willingness to push boundaries while remaining grounded in place.

What I admire most is that their connection to the region runs far deeper than simply making wine. Callum can just as easily be found in the winery or vineyard as he can driving the grape harvester through dozens of Great Southern vineyards during vintage…. a reflection of the hard work, versatility and commitment that underpin the region itself.

And the wines deliver exactly what you hope they will: purity, texture, energy and a true cool-climate signature. Balanced, expressive and quietly confident, they speak honestly of vineyard, season and site.

For me, Fervor represents exactly what Great Southern Sip stands for ….wines with integrity, provenance, genuine people behind them, and stories truly worth sharing.
